OUR TASK IS TO ADVANCE THE PRODUCTION OF CD-TE THIN FILM MODULES. WE WANT TO DRIVE THE SOLAR INDUSTRY FORWARD.

Established in 2005, Calyxo GmbH produces thin-film modules based on a Cadmiumtelluride-(CdTe-)Technology. Originally Calyxo had attained a worldwide exclusive licence for a highly innovative glass coating technology from the US company Solar Fields. Calyxo initially set up a pilot line with a production capacity of 8 MWp in Bitterfeld-Wolfen/Thalheim (Germany) to show that the technology could be transferred to mass manufacturing and rapidly commercialised. The pilot line was set into operation in summer 2007.

Calyxo GmbH combines technological advancement with the dynamics of a young, motivated company in one of the most innovative areas of photovoltaics: cadmium telluride thin-film technology. Long-term partner Solar Fields holds 94,9% of Calyxo shares. Solar Field is part of Calyxo USA and owner of patents for the atmospheric deposition process since 2007. The remaining shares of 5.1% are hold by the Advisory Board Chairman Norman W. Johnston. The Calyxo USA Inc. will focus on R&D activities and rapid further improvements of the Calyxo CdTe-technology which offers significant potential for cost reduction, whilst Calyxo GmbH in Germany is currently completing its pilot facility to reach a production capacity of 25 MWp.

In parallel, the company is already building a brand new plant to host the 110 MWp expansion line right next to its current facility in Bitterfeld-Wolfen/Thalheim (Germany). This is the decisive step to move rapidly out of the piloting phase into the mass manufacturing phase. This 110 MWp line is the first block in an entire roll-out concept, which is now to be executed as rapidly and successfully as possible. In doing so, Calyxo is following the principle of substainability    and is developing an extensive recycling concept for its modules. Obviously, this expansion strategy creates interesting challenges, but much more great opportunities to drive the company and the whole solar industry forward.
